Your Mr. Holyoak in Hongkong used a very similar term in one
of his previous letters to the Texas Company when he confirmed his tele- graphic acceptance to sign this contract jointly with my Company, from
which contract you (in London) desire to oust us; and it does indeed
appear over here as if the generous terms, which your Hongkong partner
proposes to you, are turned by you in London into the contrary not
forgetting the outstanding fact that the reason given by you in London for desiring our exclusion from this, our own, contract (and which rea- son you have been careful enough not to put on paper), is merely a pre- text to cover your (London's) designs and attempts to out off my Com-
pany

At any rate, I once more warn you, as I did in my previous let-
tere, that my Company holds you responsible if it should lose this busi-
ness (by the Texas Co. terminating its contract with us or giving notice
under it, or by our being unable to continue the business in Hongkong),
because of your procrastinating tactics and your various breaches, start-
ing with your refusal to stand by our first arrangement in October last,
on the strength of which arrangement I obtained the consent of the Texaa
Company to appoint you agents, instead of being Mr.Cheetham's advisors.
Also having particular regard to the fact that it is your veto of your
Hongkong partner's acceptance of a Texas contract, jointly with my on-
pany, from which arose all the later trouble, culminating in this sup-
posed refusal by the Hongkong Government of port and cable facilities
to my Company which, in turn, is not only undermining its position with
the Texas Company, but is obviously making it impossible for us to ap-
